Its complex maturation combines 53% first-fill bourbon casks with 31% second-fill sherry casks, while the remaining 16% followed a more intricate journey – spending 11 years in sherry casks, around five years in virgin French oak and a final period in second-fill bourbon barrels before the components were married for bottling.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe result is wonderfully layered. Honey, toasted hazelnut and salted caramel sit alongside mature peat smoke, with the years in oak softening Port Charlotte’s characteristic intensity without diminishing it. Rich malt, vanilla and orchard fruit develop alongside darker dried fruit and warming spice from the sherry casks, while the French oak contributes further structure, depth and gentle wood spice. Throughout, the smoke remains beautifully integrated – dry, earthy and persistent rather than dominant.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 51.5%, the palate carries impressive concentration and texture, balancing sweetness and smoke with a distinctly maritime character.
