    • Description

Comando G’s 2016 Rumbo al Norte is a pinnacle expression of high-altitude Garnacha from the Sierra de Gredos, west of Madrid. Crafted by Fernando García and Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi, this wine reflects their commitment to biodynamic viticulture and minimal intervention winemaking.

Sourced from a mere 0.3-hectare, north-facing parcel at 1,050 meters elevation in Navarrevisca, the vineyard's granite, quartz, and silt soils contribute to the wine's distinctive character. The 70–75-year-old vines are hand-harvested, and fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts in open vats, followed by a 60-day maceration. Aging takes place over 14 months in a 14-hectoliter French oak foudre.

In the glass, Rumbo al Norte 2016 presents a pale ruby hue, belying its aromatic intensity. The nose offers a complex bouquet of red berries, floral notes, and spices, with hints of cedar. On the palate, it is delicate yet structured, with fine acidity and a mineral backbone. The finish is long and nuanced, reflecting the wine's elegance and complexity.

This vintage showcases the potential of Garnacha from the Gredos region, offering a harmonious balance of fruit, acidity, and minerality. It is a wine of both power and grace, suitable for aging or enjoying now with dishes like roasted poultry, grilled vegetables, or aged cheeses.
