    • Description

Domaine François Lamarche are sole owners of La Grande Rue, one of the four grand cru monopoles of Vosne-Romanée (La Tâche, La Romanée and La Romanée Conti are the others)

Burgundy Domaines such as this are a rare find – even more exceptional because the vineyard holdings here are almost entirely made up of Grand Cru and Premier Cru parcels in Vosne/Echézeaux

This domaine has its roots at the start of the 20th century when Henri Lamarche, a cooper, married Marie Grivelet from Chambolle-Musigny. Henri started making his own wines and selling them directly from the estate. It was his son who gained the La Grande Rue vineyard from his wife's family by way of a dowry. This was in the 1930s when there wasn't great demand for burgundy and grands crus attracted more tax, so M Lamarche decided to leave the vineyard as a premier cru (this is despite its location between La Tâche and Romanée-Conti). In 1989 La Grande Rue was elevated to grand cru status by the INAO. Lamarche bottles 14 different wines from a little more than 10 hectares of vineyards.

    Domaine-Francois-Lamarche

Domaine Francois Lamarche has a history which begins 6 generations ago, with the Lamarche Family originally settling in the village of Vosne Romanee in 1740. Over the following 250+ years Lamarche has steadily increased their vineyard holdings with the largest coup occurring in 1933 when Henri Lamarche inherited La Grand Rue. This monople site in Vosne Romanee was nominated for promotion to Grand Cru status by the INAO (Institut national de l'origine et de la qualite) in 1988 and this degree was passed in 1992. This historic decision created the 4th Grand Cru "Monopole" of Vosne Romanee, meaning Lamarche has become one of only 3 estates to hold Monopolies in Vosne Romanee - alongside Ultra-Premium Icons Domaine de la Romanee Conti & Domaine du Comte Liger Belair. Under the careful watch of Nicole & Nathalie Lamarche many critics believe this estate is currently producing it's best wines ever.
