      Introduction to Frapin

Frapin is located in the centre of the Grande Champagne Premier Cru du Cognac region in the sleepy little town of Segonzac, the finest designated region in Cognac. It is the only merchant located in the town and only sells Cognacs produced from grapes sourced from its own 778 acre estate in the heart of the Grande Champagne region.

The Frapin family have been winegrowers since 1270 and mostly sold their Cognacs to Remy Martin, Hennessy, Courvoisier and other houses until the 1980's. Since 1984, when the Cointreau family took over what was then a forgotten brand, it has been selling increasing quantities of brandies. These brandies have been kept in new wood for longer than their competitors, so confident are they with the quality of it's brandies , the size of its stocks represent 18 years of sales (an amount of 2 to 3 times the quantity of the stocks held by its competitors).

Frapin keeps its best cognacs in new oak for up to 2 and a half years, depending on the amount of colour (and therefore tannin) the spirit has absorbed.

      Tasting Notes

The Extra cuvée comes from the family’s ancestral reserve of the House. Exclusively harvested, distilled, and aged at the estate, Frapin Extra has matured in dry cellars for several decades in barrels preserved by Pierre FRAPIN and his descendants. Aesthetic and sensual, the Extra is a Cognac for those who appreciate what is simply exceptional, beautiful, and good.

Frapin Extra offers a beautiful mahogany colour with warm coppery reflections. On the nose, it is very smooth, complex, and evolving, with subtle notes of old port mingled with the aromas of wooden cigar boxes, typical of old Grande Champagne, which emerge after a very long aging. Enchanting concentrated aromas of candied fruits, such as apricot, are noticeable

The palate is soft, velvety, rich, and indulgent, with an exceptional length where the flavours blend with subtlety and complexity. The nose notes are echoed, including the famous Rancio (oxidative notes) attributed to Grande Champagne distilled on the lees and aged for several decades. To be savoured alone or paired for a special tasting moment cherished by both enthusiasts and connoisseurs. An exceptional digestif due to its fruitiness and finesse.

The soft, velvety, rich, and indulgent palate of Extra Frapin cognac pairs perfectly with many desserts. Discover pairings where the flavours blend with subtlety and complexity. Here are a few examples of successful pairings: – Crème brûlée – Chocolate and banana tart – Plate of caramelised pears – Apple tarte tatin – Cocoa lace biscuit with its frozen tiramisu – Chocolate leaf with its English cream – Chocolate-filled macaron with cocoa sorbet – Thin pear tart with pear caramel – Chocolate fondant with caramel sauce – Warm chocolate tart with praline ice cream
