Description
Giacomo Conterno, based in Monforte d'Alba, is a revered name in Piedmontese winemaking, celebrated for its unwavering commitment to traditional methods and the production of age-worthy Barolo wines. Under the stewardship of Roberto Conterno, the estate continues to uphold the legacy of crafting profound expressions of Nebbiolo that reflect the unique terroirs of the Langhe region.
The Cerretta vineyard, situated in Serralunga d'Alba, is characterised by its calcareous clay soils and optimal south-west exposure. Acquired by the Conterno family in 2008, this site has become integral to their portfolio. In 2015, the Nebbiolo grapes were hand-harvested and underwent traditional vinification, including extended maceration and ageing in large Slavonian oak casks, to preserve the purity and elegance of the fruit.
The 2015 Barolo Cerretta presents a deep garnet hue. The nose offers a complex bouquet of withered roses, black cherries, and dried plums, intertwined with earthy notes and spices such as black pepper. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, showcasing flavours of red cherry, orange zest, and subtle hints of liquorice and vanilla. The fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity contribute to a harmonious structure, leading to a long, mineral-driven finish. This Barolo exemplifies the elegance and depth characteristic of the Cerretta cru and is poised for graceful ageing over the next two decades.
