Description
Nielson Wines, a cornerstone of Santa Barbara County viticulture, traces its legacy to Uriel J. Nielson, who in 1964 planted the region's first commercial vineyard. His pioneering spirit laid the foundation for a now-thriving wine region renowned for its cool-climate expressions. Today, Nielson continues this legacy, crafting wines that reflect the unique terroir of Santa Barbara County.
The 2019 Nielson Santa Barbara County Chardonnay is sourced from two distinct AVAs: the Santa Maria Valley and the Sta. Rita Hills. The Santa Maria Valley, one of California’s coolest AVAs, offers well-drained soils and an extended growing season, contributing citrus notes and vibrant acidity. In contrast, the Sta. Rita Hills, characterized by steep slopes and proximity to the Pacific Ocean, imparts a saline minerality and concentrated fruit flavors.
This Chardonnay was aged for eight months in a combination of French oak, stainless steel, and concrete eggs, balancing texture and freshness. On the nose, it presents aromas of citrus blossom, clean linen, and a burst of pineapple. The palate is medium-bodied, offering flavors of honeyed tropical fruit, citrus, and a touch of salinity, culminating in a smooth, mineral-driven finish. With an alcohol content of 14.1%, this wine pairs excellently with herbed roasted chicken, rich fish dishes, or creamy pasta.
