    • Description

Tatachilla Wines is a family-owned estate in McLaren Vale, established in 1974 and guided today by the Zulli family. Renowned for crafting expressive, site-driven wines, the winery combines traditional techniques with careful vineyard selection to showcase the region’s signature warmth and complexity.

Their Keystone Shiraz Viognier is sourced from mature Shiraz vineyards on red loam over limestone, with a small parcel of Viognier interplanted to lift aromatics. In 2004, fruit was hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, destemmed and co-fermented in open fermenters, with gentle pump-overs to extract fine tannin and detail. After pressing, the wine matured for 18 months in seasoned French oak hogsheads, preserving varietal purity while adding spice and structure.

In the glass, the 2004 Shiraz Viognier displays a deep garnet core with brick-tinged edges. The bouquet offers ripe black cherry, blackberry compote and a subtle florality from the Viognier, woven together with hints of five-spice and dark chocolate. On the palate, it is medium-full bodied and silky, revealing concentrated dark fruit, mocha and savoury herb nuances, framed by fine, integrated tannins and bright acidity. The finish is long and gently spiced, with a graceful savoury linger. A consummate McLaren Vale blend, drinking superbly now alongside roast lamb, beef tagine or aged Gouda.
