    • Description

The Yering Station Village Shiraz 2017 presents a deep ruby hue in the glass, hinting at its rich, full-bodied character. On the nose, intense aromas of dark berries dominate, with notes of blackberry, mulberry, and hints of spice that add complexity. There's a subtle undertone of vanilla and cedar from the careful oak aging, contributing to its inviting bouquet.

Upon tasting, this Shiraz reveals its full potential with a velvety texture that coats the palate. The flavors mirror the aromas, showcasing ripe black fruits intertwined with layers of dark chocolate and a touch of black pepper. The tannins are well-integrated, providing structure without overpowering the fruit-forward nature of the wine. It finishes with impressive length and persistence, leaving a lingering impression of its elegant balance and depth.

    Yering Station

The Rathbone Wine Group purchased Yering Station in 1996. Originally a cattle station, the Scottish-born Ryrie brothers purchased the property of 43,000 acres in 1838 and maintained its Aboriginal name 'Yering'. From the vines they planted, Victoria's first vineyard was established. When the brothers returned to Sydney in the 1950s the property was sold to Paul de Castella who extended the vineyards by planting French varieties still grown on the property today.

Led by Chief Winemaker William (Willy) Lunn, Yering Station practices sustainable viticulture and winemaking to ensure high quality grapes go into every wine he produces. Just after high school, Lunn entered the wine trade under Brian Croser of Petaluma fame. He then headed on to work at Shaw and Smith in the Adelaide Hills before travelling to the US for a role at Argyle Winery in Oregon's Willamette Valley. Willy joined Yering Station in 2008 with over 25 years of experience in cool-climate winemaking.
