Tasting Notes

Chateau de Laubade is an agricultural and winegrowing estate located in Sorbets, in the Gers, in the heart of the finest Bas Armagnac terroir. The 105 hectares estate in a single block around the chateau, built in 1870, it has been owned by the Lesgourgues family for three generations. Today, Denis, assisted by his sister, Jeanne, and brother, Arnaud, continue their family's constant striving for excellence, with the aim of producing the most outstanding Armagnacs. Appearance: Medium amber with a golden rim. Nose: Bright and delicate, with prune, vanilla, and soft smoky aromas. Palate: Smooth and balanced, revealing white fruit, cinnamon, and subtle tannins. Finish: Silky and light, with a gently spiced fade. Overall: A charming vintage with elegance and freshness - ideal for those seeking finesse over power.

Distillation & Provenance

Distillation

Château de Laubade's 1992 vintage Bas-Armagnac was distilled on the Laubade estate in Sorbets, Gers, using the traditional Armagnacais column still — the continuous distillation apparatus unique to the Armagnac appellation. The vintage draws on Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Baco, and Folle Blanche grapes grown on the estate's 260 acres of vineyard, distilled and aged separately by grape variety in 400-litre Gascony oak barrels. Following several decades of maturation in the Laubade cellars, the 1992 presents the rounded, fruit-forward profile of the vintage — dried stone fruit, walnut, vanilla, and a gentle rancio — bottled at 40% ABV.

Provenance

Château de Laubade is a family-owned Bas-Armagnac estate located in Sorbets in the Gers department of Gascony, south-west France — in the heart of the Bas-Armagnac appellation, the most highly regarded of the three Armagnac sub-regions. The estate was established in 1870 and acquired in 1974 by Maurice Lesgourgues. It is now run by the third generation of the Lesgourgues family — Denis, Jeanne, and Arnaud — who have built Laubade into one of the region's most celebrated producers. At 260 acres, it is the largest single-block vineyard estate in Bas-Armagnac, giving it exceptional control over grape varieties, harvesting, and wine quality at the source.
