Distillation & Provenance

Crafted only for our premium spirits

Distillation

Delord's 1985 vintage Bas-Armagnac was distilled from grapes grown on the boulbènes sandy soils of the Gers in the 1985 harvest — a year that produced structured, aromatic distillates across the region. The wine was distilled in the traditional Armagnacais continuous column still, which produces a more characterful and aromatic eau-de-vie than the pot still method of Cognac. The spirit was then filled into Gascon oak barrels and aged in the Delord cellars in Lannepax for several decades, developing the classic signature of well-aged Bas-Armagnac: prunes, crystallised orange, toffee, dark chocolate, and a layered rancio. Bottled at 40% ABV.

Provenance

Maison Delord was established in 1893 by Prosper Delord, a travelling distiller who settled in Lannepax in the Gers department of south-west France. Lannepax lies in the heart of the Bas-Armagnac appellation — the most highly regarded of the three Armagnac sub-regions — on the sandy boulbènes soils considered ideal for growing Armagnac varietals of outstanding quality. The house has remained in family ownership across four generations, maintaining a library of vintage expressions that document the character of individual harvest years. Maison Delord is one of the important traditional producers of Bas-Armagnac, also producing the Comte de Lamaestre prestige vintage selection from the same cellars in Lannepax.
