Tasting Notes

Le Foule's winemaker, Frederic, comes from the picturesque town of Limoux in the Languedoc. Having done vintages in Australia, New
Zealand, California and Burgundy, Frederic has now come home is deeply committed to promoting the wine from the Pays d’Oc.

“I love the amazing diversity of soil and climate we can find in the region. It is a unique place, where each grape variety is able to find its terroir of predilection!”

This wine is from terroir well suited to the production of high-quality Pinot Noir - the estate's highest plot. Thanks to the high altitude at which they are grown, the grapes benefit from cool nights and full sun during the day. This wide range in temperature difference is advantageous for good balance between sugar and freshness.

Critic Scores

Wonderfully appealing fruit and freshness. Immediately red and dark fruits to smell, then this carries through to the flavours coupled with a nice hint of spice on the palate – no oak showing to distract from this freshness. Generous and rounded but still with acidity through the middle giving it shape and structure beyond it's price point. Fantastic Pinot Noir.

Bright ruby with youthful vibrancy. The aroma is fruit-forward and inviting, showing red cherry, raspberry and subtle spice with light earthy notes. The palate is light to medium-bodied, offering juicy fruit of red cherry and raspberry supported by soft tannins and fresh acidity. A gentle savoury edge adds interest through the mid-palate, finishing smooth, clean and approachable. A bright, easy-drinking Pinot Noir with charm and balance.
Vino Masters Score: 93 / 100
★★★★★ Fresh, smooth and approachable

From the Pays DOC, the hills of Limoux, Languedoc, this is a rather delicious Pinot Noir, definitely worth seeking out. And cracking value. No oak is used here, so no distractions from the quality fruit.

A crimson red, the nose here exhibits notes of raspberries and cherries, a hint of warm earth, bay leaves and spices. A supple and seductive texture, the wine has fine balance, sleek tannins and very good length. Generous flavours ensure that this delicious wine will be a crowd pleaser, now and over the next three to four

Vinification & Cultivation

Crafted only for our premium wines

Vineyard Cultivation

La Foule is a Pinot Noir bottling drawn from cooler sites in the hills of Limoux, in the western Languedoc of southern France, an area whose altitude and Atlantic-influenced climate make it one of the region's better homes for the variety. Fruit is sourced from scattered higher plots where cool nights and full daytime sun create a wide diurnal range, helping to balance ripeness with freshness and acidity. The area offers a patchwork of soils and mesoclimates, and the growing team selects parcels suited specifically to Pinot Noir rather than the region's more common Mediterranean varieties. The 2023 season yielded ripe, fruit-forward grapes while retaining the natural acidity that gives the wine its shape and freshness at this price point.

Vinification

Grapes are harvested from the cooler Limoux sites and vinified to emphasise bright, primary fruit. Fermentation is carried out to preserve the wine's red- and dark-fruit character and gentle spice, with no oak used at any stage so that freshness is not masked. The wine sees a straightforward reductive, fruit-focused elevage in tank, retaining vibrant raspberry and cherry aromatics, a hint of warm earth and bay-leaf spice, and fine, sleek tannins. Acidity is deliberately kept through the mid-palate to lend structure and length beyond the wine's modest price. The result is a supple, medium-bodied Pinot Noir made for early and mid-term drinking over three to four years.
