"The 2020 Les Forts de Latour is superb. Hints of gravel, dried herbs, game and licorice weave through a core of dark red/purplish fruit. Spice, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco follow. The purity of the flavors is just striking. Initially a touch reticent, the 2020 fleshes out beautifully with a bit of air. I would give this at least another year or two in bottle. "The 2020 Les Forts de Latour has a marvelous bouquet with fine delineation, lively and vibrant. The marine/crustacea aspect here is more prominent than its showing from barrel. Several swirls later and a lovely graphite element pins down its birthplace. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, ever so slightly candied in style, perhaps with a touch more red fruit than recent vintages, blood orange and pencil box. It fans out beautifully on the finish - a really quite gorgeous Les Forts de Latour in the making. - Neal Martin"

"Beautiful almost sweet violet fragrance, so floral, pot pourri. Round and supple, a lovely weight and texture, warming fruit, deep and concentrated with fleshy, sweet, chewy and mouthwatering tannins, all combing to give a complete and enjoyable expression. Still a touch tight on the finish suggesting this has got plenty more life and potential to age well. What does strike me is how polished it is, it’s finessed but also shiny, sleek, elegant and stylish. I really like this. 79 IPT. 5.1% press wine. 44% production. - Georgina Hindle"

"A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26.5% Merlot, and 3.5% Petit Verdot, the 2020 Les Forts de Latour is deep garnet-purple colored. The nose is very closed to begin, slowly offering glimpses at crushed blackberries, mulberries, and cassis notes, followed by hints of aniseed, black truffles, and underbrush. The medium-bodied palate is very tightly wound with loads of vibrant black fruit and earthy layers and a firm, grainy backbone, finishing long with a compelling lift. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown"

Chateau Latour

Chateau Latour lies at the very southeastern tip of the commune of Pauillac AOC in the Medoc region of Bordeaux next to the Gironde estuary. One of the oldest estates in Bordeaux, it dates back to 1378 and was among five noted First Growths in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Latour, French for 'the tower' takes its name from a tower constructed on the estate in the 1620s which is now a well-recognized symbol depicted on the Latour label. French businessman Francois Pinault, who remains its owner today, purchased the Chateaux in 1993. The estate boast 78 hectares under vine in which 80% is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. A 47-hectare portion is dedicated solely to the grand vin, whose blend historically features Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in a 75/20 ratio, with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The soil is a mixture of gravel and clay, which lends itself well to Cabernets and Merlot, respectively.
