The wines of Vérité, French for “truth,” are the result of a combination of old-world experience and new world fruit. Jess Jackson (1930–2011) was already the founder of one of the most successful family-owned wine companies in the United States when he met Pierre Seillan during a visit to France in the 1990s. When Pierre Seillan visited California in 1997, he saw the potential and did not hesitate when Jackson asked him to come to Sonoma County to realize this dream together. And so, Vérité was born.

La Joie x 1 - Inspired by the finest wines from the Pauillac region of Bordeaux. La Joie is derived from a layered concentration of Cabernet Sauvignon vines grown along the steep hillsides and volcanic benches of the Mayacamas Mountains. Vigneron Pierre Seillan tends to a mosaic of more than fifty micro-crus to produce the complex signature of La Joie.

Tasting Notes - Displays a dark purple hue with a fine violet rim. The nose is concentrated, offering aromas of plum, pomegranate, blackcurrant, incense, bay leaf, tobacco, and French oak spices. On the palate, firm tannins and acidity support youthful fruits, sweet spices, and subtle herbs. The finish highlights dark cocoa tannins and a mineral iron note.

      Scores - 98-100 J. Dunnuck, 96-98 WA, 98 Colin Hay

La Muse x 1 - Merlot-dominant that delivers incredible depth and texture using the finest grape sources from the top micro-crus of eastern Sonoma County. La Muse was first produced in 1998 and was inspired by the finest wines of Pomerol. Vigneron Pierre Seillan tends to a mosaic of more than fifty micro-crus to produce the complex signature of La Muse.

Tasting notes - Displays a bright ruby-violet hue. The nose reveals aromas of blackberry and cranberry, with notes of coffee, caramel, vanilla, and spices. On the palate, the fruit is rich, balanced by lively tannins and focused acidity. The finish is long, with enticing acidity and crushed stone minerality.

      Scores - 97-99 J. Dunnuck, 93-96 WA, 98 Colin Hay

Vérité Le Désir x 1 - A Cabernet Franc-based blend that exudes high-toned aromatics, an iron graphite core and a pronounced minerality. Inspired by the iconic wines of Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, Le Désir redefines Cabernet Franc from the New World, with layers of concentrated fruit, exotic spice and a plush sueded texture. Vigneron Pierre Seillan tends to a mosaic of more than fifty micro-crus to produce the complex signature of Le Désir.

Le Désir 2021 displays a dark ruby-purple color with a violet rim. The nose is exuberant, with aromas of violet, greenery, black tea, nuts, and red and black fruits. French oak aging adds notes of clove and cinnamon. On the palate, the texture is firm but balanced by fruity flavors and spicy elements. The finish is long, savory, and marked by a petrichor minerality.

      Scores - 97-99 J. Dunnuck, 95-97 WA, 99 Colin Hay

    Verite

The Vérité estate is a vision created by the late Jess Jackson, a man who in Robert Parker’s eyes “was one of the most extraordinary men in the wine world I have ever met.” These wines always rate very highly (indeed, since 1998 seven have been awarded 100 Parker points) and the 2010 vintage is gaining great praise from the press and critics alike as a potential emergence of a new iconic wine from the United States.

The wines of Vérité, French for “truth,” are the result of a combination of old world experience and new world fruit. The wine is a distinct blend of varietals harvested from small vineyard blocks, each cuvée culminating in a bespoke union of grape varieties, climate, soil expression and winemaking technique. Vigneron Pierre Seillan refers to this methodology as droit du sol: “right of the soil.”

“The wines are elegant and complex, possessing superb concentration of flavor and color. These are wines meant to age over the next thirty years and will develop greater depth and character in your cellar.” Pierre Seillan, winemaker
