Description
Domaine Jean Boillot et Fils, based in Volnay, is celebrated for crafting elegant, terroir-driven Burgundy from some of the Cote de Beaune’s most prized vineyard sites. The Le Fremiets Premier Cru vineyard, set on the border of Volnay and Pommard, is particularly noted for producing Pinot Noir of both finesse and depth.
The 1998 Le Fremiets was produced from mature, low-yielding vines, hand-harvested and traditionally vinified with indigenous yeasts. Maturation took place in French oak barriques, a modest proportion new, to add subtle complexity and support the fruit.
Now at full maturity, this wine displays an aromatic bouquet of dried cherry, rose petal, earth, and delicate spice. The palate is supple and harmonious, with soft, integrated tannins, lively acidity, and flavours of red berry, forest floor, and a hint of sous-bois. The finish is persistent and refined, highlighting both the pedigree of Le Fremiets and the classic style of aged Volnay. This is a graceful, evolved Burgundy, drinking beautifully now and offering a clear sense of place.
