Distillation & Provenance

Distillation

François Voyer XO Gold Grande Champagne Cognac is the prestige XO expression of the estate, introduced in 2007 and presented in a distinctive carafe bottle. Produced from estate-grown and selected Grande Champagne Ugni Blanc, distilled on the lees in Charentais copper pot stills, and aged in French oak barrels for between twenty and thirty years. The extended XO maturation — deep within the Grande Champagne chalk terroir and French oak — develops layers of dried stone fruit, dark chocolate, sandalwood, and a profound rancio characteristic of great aged Grande Champagne Cognac. Bottled at 40% ABV in a distinctive crystal carafe.

Provenance

Maison François Voyer is a family Cognac estate with origins in 1795, situated near the village of Verrières in the Grande Champagne — the premier cru of the Cognac appellation. The Chauchet-Voyer family have been distilling and ageing eaux-de-vie in oak barrels for over five generations, and the house accumulated a significant stock of old vintages in the twentieth century under Guy Chauchet, who enriched the cellars with long-aged reserves from the 1960s onwards. The estate is now operated by cellar master Pierre Vaudon, who farms 28 hectares of his own vines in Grande Champagne and also works with additional vinegrowers across the premier cru zone.
