Tasting Notes

Hennessy VSOP Cognac is a smooth and sophisticated drop, offering layers of dried fruit, vanilla, spice, and toasted oak. Aged to perfection, it's rich, balanced, and effortlessly elegant. Sip it neat, on the rocks, or mix into an elevated cocktail. Perfect for special occasions, slow nights, or celebrating the good stuff. Best enjoyed with great company and zero rush.

On the palate, the natural balance of strength and smoothness creates a harmonious blend in which maturity combines with vigour. The structure is softened by a suggestion of fresh grape character. Hennessy V.S.O.P is a cognac that matches particularly well with a mix of structured and delicate savours that echo the harmonious side of the blend.

Distillation & Provenance

Crafted only for our premium spirits

Distillation

Hennessy VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale) Cognac is a blend of eaux-de-vie from all four of the premier Cognac crus — Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies, and Fins Bois — with the youngest component aged a minimum of four years in French oak. Each eau-de-vie is double-distilled in Charentais copper alembic stills before being aged in Limousin or Tronçais oak barrels. The VSOP tier allows for longer cask contact, producing a more complex and rounded cognac than VS, with notes of vanilla, toasted oak, dried fruit, and light spice. The blend was first created for the Prince Regent of Great Britain in 1817 at his request for a paler cognac. Bottled at 40% ABV.

Provenance

Hennessy was founded in 1765 by Richard Hennessy, an Irish officer who had served in the French army and settled in Cognac, Charente. The house grew through the 19th century to become one of the world's largest cognac producers and is now a founding member of the LVMH group. Hennessy sources eaux-de-vie from across all six growth areas of the Cognac region — Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies, Fins Bois, Bons Bois, and Bois Ordinaires — and maintains a library of over 350,000 barrels in its Cognac cellars. The blending tradition at Hennessy has been held by the Fillioux family for eight successive generations.
