There are dinners built around great bottles, and then there are evenings built around legacy. Domaine de la Romanee Conti belongs firmly in that second category. It is a producer whose very name carries a sense of myth. For centuries, this iconic Burgundian estate has shaped the way the world understands Pinot Noir. Its vineyards are spoken about with a kind of reverence. Its wines are chased across continents. Its reputation has been earned slowly through patience, tradition and an almost obsessive commitment to detail.
This dinner is our way of honouring that lineage. It is not a tasting with a crowd or a series of quick pours. It is a moment designed for people who truly appreciate what it means to encounter these wines with full attention. With only ten guests at the table, the evening becomes intentionally intimate. No noise. No rush. Just the opportunity to sit with these bottles in a setting that lets them reveal themselves.
That is the purpose of the night. Space. Space to breathe, to think, to talk and to watch the wines evolve over the course of the meal. Space to appreciate how rare it is to see this collection of bottles opened together. Wines like these usually live in private cellars or appear only at auction. Bringing them to the table in Sydney is both a privilege and a responsibility, and we want to give them the environment they deserve.
The story of the domaine is one of continuity. These vineyards have endured revolutions, wars and shifting eras of winemaking, yet their identity has remained remarkably intact. Generations of custodians have treated these small parcels of land with an almost monastic level of care. The result is a style that feels both ancient and precise, shaped by philosophy as much as by soil. To taste them is to briefly step into that history.
This dinner exists because moments like this almost never happen. Bringing these bottles together is difficult. Sharing them with the right group of people is even rarer. So we have kept the guest list small, the pacing slow and the atmosphere grounded in quiet excitement. It is a chance to explore Burgundy at its highest level, surrounded by people who understand exactly how special the night will be.
