Distillation

Darroze's 1985 Grand Bas-Armagnac comes from Domaine de Bellair, an estate in the village of Cravancères in the Gers, operated for generations by the Roma family. The Bellair vineyard is planted with approximately 60% Baco 22A and 40% Ugni Blanc on sandy clay soils typical of the Grand Bas-Armagnac zone — a sub-designation within Bas-Armagnac denoting the finest terroirs. Distilled in the traditional Armagnacais continuous column still, the 1985 eau-de-vie has aged in oak for several decades before selection and bottling by Maison Darroze. It is presented at natural cask strength (47.0% ABV) without reduction or additives.

Provenance

Maison Darroze is a specialist négociant of single-vintage, single-estate Bas-Armagnac, founded in 1974 in Roquefort, Landes, by Francis Darroze. Darroze grew up assisting his father Jean — a celebrated Michelin-starred chef of the Landes — on visits to local Armagnac producers sourcing bottles for the family restaurant cellar. By 1974, he had established Maison Darroze in Roquefort as a trader-producer committed to sourcing complete barrels from more than thirty Gascon family estates, bottling each at natural cask strength without reduction or additives, and labelling with both the Darroze name and the originating estate. Francis's son Marc now continues the négociant role; his daughter is three-Michelin-star chef Hélène Darroze.
