The 2023 Le Grand Pin continues from 100% old-vine Grenache (50–100 years) in the sandy Le Grand Pin parcel, farmed biodynamically. The 2023 vintage proved more complex and challenging than 2022. Northern Rhône experienced rainfall shortfalls and excessive heatwaves with Mediterranean rainfall, mildew outbreaks and water stress. Spring remained dry (80mm Q1 rainfall), though April–May rains (120mm) revived growth. July brought severe weather including hailstorms and heat stress. August's intense heatwaves peaked 24 August at record temperatures. A significant 100mm rainfall over three days mid-harvest provided relief and allowed phenolic ripening. Southern Rhône Grenache achieved excellent ripeness with aromatic expression suggesting a great vintage for this variety.

Le Grand Pin 2023 undergoes whole-bunch fermentation in concrete tanks, maintaining aromatic purity despite the vintage's challenges. The wine then ages in 600-litre demi-muids, allowing slow maturation and subtle oak integration. This production approach preserves the Southern Rhône's fresh structures and fairly low total acidity characteristic of 2023, while developing complexity and mineral dimension. The mid-harvest rainfall enabled phenolic completion without excessive concentration, balancing ripe expression with elegance.
