    Domaine du Pegau

Named after a terracotta wine jug from the 14th century, this premium southern French Domaine is situated in the in the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation. Although this land has remained in the family for centuries (cultivating wine and farming goods such as cherries since 1670), the Domain du Pegau was only officially created in 1987. The Domaine now has three generations of winemaking prowess, starting with Elvira and Leon Féraud. They began cultivating wines from the family estate and selling wine in large quantities to négociants in France. In 1964, Elvira and Leon’s youngest son Paul decided to produce his own bottled wine. Today Paul and his daughter Laurence Féraud have taken up many of the responsibilities of managing the Domaine. Combing their experience and expertise they maintain the authenticity of such a culturally traditional wine, while still moving it forward into the modern-day industry. Between 1988 and 1989, Laurence and Paul constructed a winery to produce their estate wines, as well as a cellar for ageing them. From 1992, the Domaine du Pegau Châteauneuf du Pape Red was ranked in the top three wines of the appellation by the prestigious Revue du Vin de France. Today the estate produces 19.5 hectares of red Châteauneuf, 1.5 hectares of white Châteauneuf, 25 hectares of Cotes du Rhone Villages, 5 hectares of Cotes du Rhone, and most recently an additional 12 hectares of VSIG (vin sans indication géographique). This extensive collection of blocks allows the Domaine to select their best grapes to go into producing their top cuvees. In 2012, Domaine du Pegau purchased a second estate just 6 kilometers from Châteauneuf du Pape, adding a further 60 hectares- including 41 hectares under vine- to their impressive portfolio. This estate was aptly named Château Pegau and it too releases some outstanding wines.
