"Wines from Peter Dredge are refined in their proportions. Flavour is always at the forefront, yet it’s the purity, structure and length of the wines that make them truly outstanding.” Toni Paterson MW, Gourmet Traveller WINE

“Meadowbank’s vineyard is one of the most important in Tasmanian wine" Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

    • Description

High in Tasmania’s Derwent Valley, hidden at the end of a winding dirt road, lies a place that is shimmering with life. Playing witness each year to a dance-like ritual between warm days and cool nights, Meadowbank produces fruit of a near ethereal quality – a quality that almost never was.

For those who are yet to taste these over the years, a quick heads up that this is not a typical Aussie Riesling. The grapes originate from very old Tasmanian vines (planted at Meadowbank in 1974) combined with Gerald’s more recently planted German Riesling clones. The cool-climate conditions that sweep through hidden valley continue to produce fruit of exceptional taste and quality. Winemaker, Peter Dredge, then splits these Riesling ferments between stainless steel tanks (for refined freshness) and old French oak barrels (for complexity and texture) – the final blend produces a wine where high acid and a gentle kiss of residual sugar dance together in perfect harmony. A truly captivating wine that is completely and utterly delicious.
