References to the family can be found in records dating as far back as 1550

After meany years working for his uncles at Domaine André Dezat, Firmin took over the helm in 2021. His first steps were to add his name whilst also converting to 100 organic production.

    • Description

This benchmark domaine first gained its reputation under Andre Dezat but is now in the safe hands of his grandsons Arnaud and Firmin who have recently divided the estate between them, Arnaud now working alongside his sister Stephanie. There are 20 hectares around five villages, 15 hectares being planted with Sauvignon Blanc (the rest with Pinot Noir for their excellent red and rose wines). Yields are low and the wines meticulously made, the Sancerre Blanc combing ripe, expressive fruit with the delicate flinty minerality and citrus freshness typical of the region. The nose is classic Sancerre, with aromas of citrus, apple and grass, as well as a beguiling smoky note. The palate is relatively rich (owing to a warm vintage) yet fresh, with a long, mineral finish.

    Andre Dezat

One of the most respected of Loire estates, the Dezat family's 38 hectares covers 6 villages in Sancerre and 4 in Pouilly-Fumé incorporating the key soil types of 'terres blanches' (ancient active limestone), 'caillottes' (stony clay) and 'silex' (flint). Simon and Louis Dezat represent the fourth generation, taking the domaine to new heights by making incremental changes to improve the wine more time is spent among the vines, fine-tuning the vine, while a sorting table has been recently adopted to select only the healthiest fruit. Their ripe understated Sancerre delivers year-in, year-out, while the Domaine Thibault Pouilly-Fume is a model of precision and elegance.
