Tasting Notes

The glass of Champagne Drappier was lifted by the hands of the greatest men. General De Gaulle, for example, was a fan of the estate's vintages. This success is mainly due to the application of winegrowers, from generation to generation, to cultivate and produce unique parcels. Champagne Drappier is today the first and only Carbon Zero Champagne house in the world. The Grande Sendree is only produced in exceptional years. This is a wonderful champagne made only the great years ! Made from very old vines of a small plot (55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay), this prestigious champagne surprises by its great fineness and powerful aromas. The elegant bottle shape is a reproduction of a 13th century bottle discovered in the Estate's cellars in Urville. Grande Sendrée 2012 from Drappieris produced in very limited quantities. The oldest vines from the best parcels are harvested with particular care.

Critic Scores

The 2015 Champagne Grande Sendrée pours a bright, light yellow color and offers notes of frangipane, orange, ripe peaches, custard, and citrus. A more toasty and rounded feel with a hint of oak also comes through, but it's not an oaky wine. The mousse is pillowy and creamy, driving through the wine with no harsh edges. It's a benchmark wine in the range and beautifully done in this warm vintage. Composed of 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay, disgorged in October 2024, the same winemaking approach was used on this wine as has been used since 1836: 60% oak, 3-4 grams per liter dosage, low sulfite, and no filtration.

Wow. Big and rich with lots of brioche and salted butter as well as dried-apple and flint aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, layered and delicious with a long, creamy finish. Turns rather dry at the end from the beaded bubbles. Drink now.

From an organically certified vineyard in Urville, the 2015 Grande Sendrée, disgorged in October 2024 with a dosage of four grams per liter, has turned out beautifully. It opens in the glass with aromas of orange marmalade, ripe pear and dried apricot mingling with notes of brioche and bourbon vanilla. On the palate, the wine is medium- to full-bodied, elegantly muscular and textural, with a rich core of fruit underpinned by considerable tension. Tangy acids lend energy and drive to a wine that concludes with a long, gently bitter finish. A blend of 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay, it is entirely vinified in foudre.
