Tasting Notes

The Mure family’s winemaking legacy in Alsace dates back to 1650. A Domaine steeped in tradition, exalted in passion, expertise and an unwavering commitment. For over three and a half centuries, generation after generation they have nurtured the vines, mastering the delicate balance between heritage and innovation.

Nestled in the heart of Alsace’s picturesque vineyards, the Muré estate has become synonymous with wines of exceptional quality and character. Each bottle is a testament to the family’s deep-rooted connection to the land and their pursuit of excellence.

Alsace’s naturally long ripening season is amplified by Muré’s exceptional south-facing slopes, and stony clay-limestone topsoil with a subsoil of Oligocene conglomerates with oolitic limestone pebbles. These are exciting wines, abundant in flavour, opulence & lacy acidity.

The new generation, Veronique and Thomas, the twelfth, is taking this magnificent Domaine to even newer heights.

Coming from plots cultivated in organic agriculture, this Crémant d'Alsace is from different grape varieties: Pinot Blanc (25%) Pinot Auxerrois (25%) Pinot Gris (20%) Riesling (20%) Chardonnay (5%) and Pinot Noir (5%).

The vines are planted in the Rouffach region, on soils dominated by limestone, suitable for the production of fine and elegant creamy base wines.

Vineyard Cultivation

Domaine Mure, also known as Maison Mure, is a twelfth-generation family estate at Rouffach in the Haut-Rhin, celebrated for its monopole Clos Saint Landelin at the southern end of the grand cru Vorbourg. The domaine farms organically, and its holdings sit on limestone-dominated soils that suit fresh, mineral-driven sparkling wine. Fruit for the Cremant d'Alsace Brut is drawn from plots averaging around twenty years of age. As a non-vintage cuvee it is assembled to a house style, favouring ripe but balanced fruit picked earlier than the still-wine harvest to retain the natural acidity essential to traditional-method sparkling.

Vinification

Made by the traditional method, the wine takes its fine bubbles from a second fermentation in bottle. The blend is led by Pinot Blanc and Pinot Auxerrois (about a quarter each), with a similar share of Pinot Gris, plus Riesling for cut and a little Pinot Noir for structure. Hand-picked grapes are gently pressed and fermented to a dry base wine, which after tirage matures on lees in bottle before riddling and disgorgement. The dosage is set in the brut range, around eight to ten grams per litre, leaving the wine dry with orchard-fruit and citrus flavours framed by a limestone-driven freshness.
