The Arran Sauternes Cask Finish brings together the vibrant, fruit-driven character of Lochranza Distillery with the luscious richness of Sauternes, creating an expressive Single Malt that balances sweetness, freshness and spice.

Initially matured for eight years in traditional oak casks, the whisky is then finished in carefully selected Sauternes wine casks from Bordeaux. These casks introduce an additional layer of richness and complexity to the naturally bright Arran spirit, bringing notes of ripe apricot, honeyed melon, dried fruit and floral sweetness while retaining the freshness and definition at the heart of the distillery's style.

The Sauternes casks are sourced from a small artisan producer in France and selected by Arran Distillery Manager Stewart Bowman specifically for their ability to complement rather than dominate the whisky. The result is a beautifully integrated cask finish where the influence of the sweet Bordeaux wine works alongside Arran's citrus, orchard fruit and malt character.

Bottled at a generous 50% ABV, natural colour and non-chill filtered, this is a richly textured and concentrated expression. Honey, vanilla and sultana are balanced by citrus zest, warming spice, toasted oak and a distinctive saline edge, preventing the sweetness from becoming heavy and giving the whisky impressive energy and length.

Rich enough to enjoy as an after-dinner dram but with enough freshness and structure to stand beautifully on its own, the Arran Sauternes Cask Finish is an excellent showcase of how considered wine-cask maturation can add another dimension to classic Arran Single Malt.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Fragrant and inviting, with honeysuckle, ripe melon and marzipan complemented by honeyed fruit and a gentle edge of spice.

Palate: Rich and textural, opening with generous honeyed sweetness before citrus zest brings freshness and definition. Vanilla and sultana develop through the mid-palate, followed by warming spice, a touch of sea salt and toasted oak.

Finish: Long, rich and beautifully balanced, combining the voluptuous sweetness of Sauternes with ripe fruit, spice and the vibrant character of Arran Single Malt.
