    • Description

An XO Cognac finished Single Malt in French Oak casks, a reported first for Talisker, is but a facet of this bottles story. The glass was produced using a 100% biofuel-powered furnace, part of their commitment towards Parley for the Oceans mission to "rewild" 100 million square metres of oceanic forest. On release, £3 was donated by Talisker for every bottle sold. Considering Taliskers reliance on the sea their whisky is 'made by', this is a fitting and worthy cause to throw their weight behind. Expect classic, oily, lightly peated Talisker with a nutty, dried fruit twist. 48.6 Alc./Vol.

Talisker's Wilder Seas expresses a bold personality, showcasing unique characteristics. The cognac treatment adds a subtle sweetness and a distinct boozy sharpness on the palate, which was unexpected. The nose reveals mild Talisker elements, with prominent malty notes of brown bread and brioche. Hints of pepper, raisins, plums, and toffee further enhance the aroma, accompanied by a light muddy note, rock pools, and wet gravel. The brandy influence is noticeable, yet not overpowering, providing a wine-like quality. On the taste, the presence of black pepper is more prominent, followed by sultanas, stewed red apples, brackish notes, warm smoky nuances, and a touch of olive oil. A subtle plaster-like sensation emerges as well. As the mid-palate unfolds, the whisky becomes slightly thinner and more focused on lemon and chili heat, with a lingering boozy edge. The finish is medium in length, highlighting pepper, light smoke, aniseed sharpness, and brine. Overall, it is a pleasant whisky.
