Tasting Notes

Tequila Arette is a family owned distillery, operated by the Orendain family, one of the four founding families of the Tequila appellation. The distillery itself, named El Llano, is only a few minutes walk from the town centre of Tequila, Jalisco. It was the original site of production in the early 1900s, once production eclipsed the capacity of the site, the Orendain family moved to a larger facility now known as the Orendain Distillery.

In 1978, the original site was reopened by the family as Tequila Arette, in order to capture the traditional, Artesanal style of production that was lost upon moving to a more industrial setting. The name Arette pays homage to a famous Mexican racehorse, which won Mexico's first riding Gold Medal at the 1948 Olympics.

This special release contains only the middle heart cuts from the El Llano still. Uncut, and lightly filtered, this is as close to sharing a drink with the producers as it gets. At 50.5%, the true characters of the spirit show clearly. You'll notice a thick beading on the edge of your glass showing just how oily this spirit is.

Expect a floral bouquet on the nose, citrus zest and grilled capsicum. On the palate it is smooth despite its strength, with a rich texture that carries notes of roasted agave, a faint sweetness, and a pleasant spice towards the finish.

Drink neat, with grapefruit soda, or use to level up your tequila cocktails!

Distillation & Provenance

Crafted only for our premium spirits

Distillation

Arette's Artesanal line employs traditional production methods at El Llano Distillery (NOM 1109) in the town of Tequila, Jalisco. Estate-grown Blue Weber agave piñas are slow-roasted for 48 hours in stone and brick ovens, then milled using a roller mill. Natural spontaneous fermentation takes place in open-air concrete tanks using native house yeast. The fermented wort is double-distilled in copper-coil pot stills. The 'Fuerte 101' is the high-strength expression within the Artesanal Suave range, bottled at 50.5% ABV (101 US proof) — preserving greater aromatic intensity and the full character of the estate agave and traditional Tequila Valley production methods. Unaged; produced as an expression of pure distillate character.

Provenance

Arette Tequila is crafted at the historic El Llano Distillery in the town of Tequila, Jalisco — the Tequila Valley lowland region where the spirit and its NOM appellation originate. El Llano was founded in 1900 and has been operated by the Orendain family for five generations, making Arette one of only four founding tequila families still operating independently. The brand was launched in 1986 and named after 'Arete', the horse that won back-to-back Olympic gold medals for Mexico in show jumping at the 1948 London Games. The distillery (NOM 1109) uses 100% estate-grown agave harvested at 8–10 years maturity from fields on the outskirts of the town of Tequila.
