Distillation & Provenance

Distillation

Gran Cofradia Reposado Tequila is produced at La Cofradia's NOM 1137 distillery in Tequila, Jalisco, from mature blue Weber agave grown in the Jalisco highlands. The harvested piñas are slow-cooked in traditional brick ovens before the juice is extracted, fermented, and double-distilled in copper pot stills at the Tequila facility. As a reposado, the tequila is rested in American oak barrels for a minimum of two months, developing soft vanilla and caramel notes against the fresh, vegetal blue agave character. Gran Cofradia represents the accessible expression in La Cofradia's portfolio, bottled at 38% ABV — slightly below the 40% standard to create a lighter, more approachable style.

Provenance

La Cofradia is a tequila distillery (NOM 1137) based in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico, within the Denomination of Origin for tequila. The distillery produces a range of tequilas from mature blue Weber agave (Agave tequilana Weber var. azul) grown in the Jalisco highlands, and operates as both a producer of its own branded expressions and as a contract distillery for private and branded tequila labels. La Cofradia's portfolio includes the Edicion Talavera — distinguished by its hand-painted ceramic Talavera-style bottle — and the Gran Cofradia range. All tequilas are produced within the CRT-regulated Tequila Denomination of Origin.
