Tasting Notes

Siete Leguas is one of the oldest distilleries from the Jalisco Highlands. Production here still uses artisanal methods, including a mule-driven tahona and traditional brick ovens for agave roasting and crushing.

Siete Leguas has been popular in Mexico for decades, and was the original producer for the internationally famous export label Patron, until 2002 when a new distillery was constructed to supply growing international demand, some say to the detriment of the quality of Patron.

The Siete Leguas Reposado is aged 8 months in American Oak barrels, and takes on a brilliant golden hue. The intensity of the Blanco is softened by the oak. Agave spice meets vanilla and oak spice for a rounded, bold tequila that finishes smooth.

Distillation & Provenance

Crafted only for our premium spirits

Distillation

Siete Leguas Reposado begins as 100% blue agave tequila produced across the brand's two Jalisco distilleries — El Centenario (tahona-pressed, traditional copper pot stills) and La Vencedora (roller-milled, large copper pot stills). After double distillation, the blanco spirit is transferred to American white oak barrels for a minimum of two months and up to twelve months, the reposado classification range. The wood aging imparts pale gold colour and adds layers of vanilla, toasted oak, and subtle spice while preserving the highland agave's herbaceous, fruity character. Master Distiller Arturo Valle-Salcedo oversees the blending and approves each release. Bottled at 38% ABV, additive-free.

Provenance

Siete Leguas tequila is produced in Atotonilco el Alto, in the Los Altos (highlands) region of Jalisco, Mexico — one of the most prized sub-appellations of the tequila denomination, where high altitude, iron-rich red clay soils, and cooler temperatures produce blue agave with elevated sugar concentrations. Founded in 1952 by Ignacio González Vargas and his wife María Amparo De Anda Franco, Casa Siete Leguas is named after the prized horse of Revolutionary general Pancho Villa. The brand operates two distilleries under NOM 1120: the traditional El Centenario — featuring brick ovens, a mule-drawn tahona, and small copper pot stills — and the larger La Vencedora, completed in 1984. The family tradition continues under Juan Fernando González de Anda.
