Tasting Notes
Ardbeg Ardcore is a whisky born not in a quiet warehouse but in the noise and chaos of punk attitude. Released for Ardbeg Day 2022, this limited edition tears up the rulebook by using roasted black malt, an ingredient more common in stout brewing than whisky distillation. The result is a dram that’s gritty, punchy, and full of hardcore personality.
The nose kicks off with burnt toast, soot, dark chocolate, and subtle wafts of graphite and espresso. It’s like sticking your head into a charred barley sack while a garage band plays in the background. On the palate, things get wilder. There’s a fierce hit of ginger, smoked nuts, treacle, and cracked black pepper, followed by waves of liquorice and savoury herbs. It’s raw, rebellious, and full of character.
The finish lingers with smoke, bitter cocoa, and a salty tang, like biting into a smoked espresso brownie by the sea.
