Domaine Marc-Antonin Blain Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 is a rare and highly sought-after Burgundy white wine from one of the Côte de Beaune’s most prestigious Grand Cru vineyards. Crafted from Chardonnay, this exceptional cuvée reflects the depth, pedigree and extraordinary scarcity associated with Bâtard-Montrachet.

Run by Marc-Antonin Blain, son of Jean-Marc and Claudine, the domaine carries a deeply personal family legacy. The vineyard was entrusted to Marc-Antonin by his grandfather one year before his passing, and today the estate spans just 1.16 hectares across four appellations, including Bâtard-Montrachet.

With only two barrels produced in 2024, this limited-production Grand Cru is an exceptionally rare allocation. The 2024 vintage offers a compelling opportunity to experience the domaine’s precise expression of this legendary terroir.

Marc-Antonin Blain has made a brilliant Bâtard in 2024, with lush aromas of ripe apple and pear, floral notes and a hint of nutmeg. The texture is rich and dense but not overly so – this is an elegant wine, and nothing is out of proportion. The grapes are from the old vines inherited from his grandfather, Jacques Gagnard-Delagrange; they are lightly crushed and gently pressed before fermentation in barrel. No sulphur is used before bottling to produce this top-notch wine. Cellar this ideally for 10 years before opening.

This possesses the most floral-suffused nose in the range, especially acacia blossom, with its notes of citrus peel, crushed fennel and spice. There is better volume still with excellent size and weight to the broad-shouldered flavors that exude evident power on the balanced, youthfully austere and hugely long finale. Like the Criots, this too could use better depth though again, with the development potential that is so clearly on display, more complexity will almost certainly develop.
