    Geoff Merrill

The Geoff Merrill winemaking philosophy has been and always will be, to make wine that allows regional, varietal and vintage expression, without excessive winemaker intervention.

100 years ago a young Englishman, Mostyn Owen built Mount Hurtle winery which is set in the Hurtle Vale Ward just behind Reynella. Innovative for its time, the winery used the principles of gravity to feed wine throughout the cellars. Today, it’s hard to believe when Geoff purchased the winery in 1985 it was run down. It required two years of love and hard work to restore the winery to its former glory.
