Tasting Notes

Giaconda Estate Shiraz 2016 is an iconic Australian red wine from Beechworth, crafted by one of the country’s most respected fine-wine estates. Since the early 1980s, Giaconda has earned a benchmark reputation through Rick Kinzbrunner’s Burgundian-inspired, site-driven approach.

This distinguished cool-climate Shiraz combines rich blackberry and dark plum flavours with layers of pepper, spice and earthy complexity. Powerful yet finely balanced, it displays refined, integrated tannins, vibrant freshness and an impressively long finish. The 2016 vintage captures Giaconda’s signature blend of intensity, elegance and finesse.

A superb choice with grilled steak, roast lamb, slow-cooked beef or a generous Sunday roast, this premium Beechworth Shiraz is sourced from a private cellar and is ready to enjoy or cellar further.

Critic Scores

An elegant and redder-fruited edition from 2016. This has some very sappy and foresty aromas with dried leaves, wild herbs, wild flowers and an array of spices and pepper-dusted red berries. The palate has a smooth web of gently grainy tannins, holding long into the finish. Bright and sweet red plums and cherries abound. Give this some time and try from 2022.

About this Wine

Shiraz

Bold and full-bodied, Shiraz delivers rich dark fruit flavours of blackberry, plum, and black cherry, layered with black pepper, clove, and subtle smoke. Firm tannins and a velvety texture give it real structure, often rounded out by notes of chocolate and vanilla from oak ageing. A versatile pairing partner for grilled meats and hearty dishes, it's one of Australia's most planted red varieties

Victoria

The wine region of Victoria has the highest number of grape vines than any other state in Australia. It is home to over 600 wineries and well known regions such as Yarra valley, Heathcote, and Rutherglen. Victoria is situated in the southeastern corner of Australia where due to the location, the climate has a cool maritime influence and is known for their outstanding Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, along with producing Australia’s most famed dessert Muscat and Topaque wines.

There are a number of different terroir levels throughout the wine region of Victoria which leads to the production of different ranges of wines. In the southern region of Victoria, the vines are regulated by the cool winds of the Bass Strait. Central Victoria consists of mostly flat terrain that tends to be drier and warmer than the rest of Victoria, which results in more fruit concentrated wines. It may be surprising to note that Victoria is the third most productive wine region in Australia, seeing as it does not have as many areas suitable for viticulture, which has resulted in the cellar door culture of Victoria being concentrated with smaller, but more personal boutique wineries.
