Tasting Notes

The 2015 Heirloom Vineyards A’Lambra Shiraz is a show-stopping McLaren Vale classic that encapsulates both power and polish. Handcrafted from select sites and matured in high-quality French oak, this wine seduces with a lifted nose of blackberry, mulberry, and black plum, wrapped in layers of dark chocolate, licorice, and exotic spice. The palate is plush and concentrated, offering dense black fruits and hints of espresso, all carried by velvety tannins and a gentle thread of acidity that brings freshness to the richness. The oak integration is seamless, supporting the fruit with subtle structure and finesse. The finish is long, persistent, and mouth-coating, confirming this as a true flagship Shiraz with impressive depth and complexity. Perfect for lovers of bold, refined Australian reds.

Critic Scores

A wine of beauty, a wine of substance. From the first sip to the final swallow this has you wrapped around its finger. It tastes of fresh boysenberry and pure plum, mint and violets, wood smoke from oak and five spice notes adding some extra flash. Firm but ultra-fine tannin plays tugboat to the power of fruit, guiding it through the finish. It's a standout.

Vinification & Cultivation

Crafted only for our premium wines

Vineyard Cultivation

The A'Lambra Shiraz 2015 sources from Heirloom's McLaren Vale holdings, where the region's distinctive red clay and limestone soils deliver earthy minerality and structure. McLaren Vale's southerly latitude and maritime influence provide cooler conditions than inland regions, favouring complexity over simple ripeness. The 2015 vintage in McLaren Vale was warm but well-balanced; good rainfall events maintained canopy health and moderate yields. Selective harvesting and canopy management are typical for quality-focused producers in the region.

Vinification

The 2015 vintage was hand-harvested and destemmed before fermentation in open-top wooden or concrete vessels. Traditional plunging or pump-over regimes extracted colour and tannin during a 12-14 day maceration. Following pressing, the wine spent time in oak—American and/or French, proportions and duration to be confirmed—to develop complexity. Malolactic fermentation occurred in barrel or post-barrel. The wine was fined and filtered before bottling, ensuring clarity and ageing potential.

About this Wine

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the countries vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
