Tasting Notes

Maison Pouget is a Mendoza producer in Argentina positioning itself around premium and sparkling wines, drawing on the high-altitude vineyards of the region. The Champana Extra Brut is a traditional-method sparkling built on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grown in Mendoza's cool, elevated sites, where the combination of altitude, wide day-night temperature range and low rainfall preserves the natural acidity and delicate flavour required for base wine. Vineyards sit on the alluvial, stony soils typical of the Andean foothills, irrigated by snowmelt. As a non-vintage cuvee it is assembled to a consistent house style rather than expressing a single season.

Vinification

The Champana Extra Brut is made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir pressed to a fresh base wine, with the varieties fermented before blending. Being labelled Champana and Extra Brut, it is produced as a traditional-method sparkling with secondary fermentation in bottle, then matured on its lees to build fine mousse and bready complexity before disgorgement. The Extra Brut finish indicates a very low dosage, giving a dry, crisp style. As a non-vintage wine, reserve material may be used to maintain continuity across releases.
