Tenjaku Pure Malt is a vatted malt whisky — a blend of 100% malt whiskies with no grain spirit — produced in Yamanashi Prefecture using the soft volcanic spring water that defines the Tenjaku style. The expression is created by master distiller Kenji Watanabe from malt whiskies aged in heavily used ex-bourbon barrels for up to six years — the use of well-used casks allows the malt character to remain prominent rather than being dominated by new oak. The profile is richer and more complex than the Tenjaku Blended expression, with notes of honeyed malt, dried apricot, gentle spice, and a soft, round finish characteristic of Japanese malt whisky production. Bottled at 43% ABV.

Tenjaku is a Japanese whisky range produced in the Fuefuki area of Yamanashi Prefecture — a mountainous region on the slopes of the Japanese Alps, historically famous for its pure alpine spring water and its connections to Japanese winemaking. The region's water, drawn from a depth of 250 metres and filtered through volcanic rock, gives the whisky its characteristic softness on the palate. Tenjaku is produced by Minami Alps Wine & Beverage Co., Ltd. and was introduced to international markets in 2020. 'Tenjaku' translates loosely from Japanese as 'paradise bird' — a reference to the crane, a symbol of longevity and good fortune in Japanese culture.
