Torbreck’s The Struie brings together fruit from two iconic South Australian regions—Barossa Valley and Eden Valley—showcasing the contrast between Barossa’s power and Eden Valley’s cooler, more aromatic character. It reflects Torbreck’s Rhône-inspired, old-vine philosophy.

Rich yet balanced, it combines blackberry, plum, pepper and spice with fine tannins and fresh lift—an impressive but approachable Shiraz for steak, roast lamb, barbecue or a relaxed dinner.

Tasting Notes

Torbreck The Struie Shiraz 2008 showcases the distinctive character of South Australia’s Barossa Valley and Eden Valley in a refined, Rhône-inspired style. This premium Australian Shiraz brings together fruit from two iconic regions, combining Barossa Valley richness and power with the cooler-climate aromatics, balance and finesse of Eden Valley.

Rich and expressive, the 2008 vintage reveals layers of blackberry, ripe plum, pepper and warming spice, supported by fine tannins and a refreshing lift. Reflecting Torbreck’s old-vine philosophy, The Struie delivers impressive depth and regional definition while remaining approachable and beautifully suited to the table.

A compelling mature Shiraz sourced from a premium private cellar, it is an excellent choice for pairing with grilled steak, roast lamb, barbecue dishes and relaxed dinner occasions. With its combination of ripe dark fruit, savoury spice and polished structure, Torbreck The Struie Shiraz 2008 is a distinguished expression of Barossa and Eden Valley wine.

Critic Scores

The Struie is made with high-altitude Eden Valley fruit lending it a peppery, smoky, licorice root nose with resiny, garrigue, spicy, barnyard plum aromas flecked with vanilla cola, cherry and curry notes. An excellent complex nose it has a dry, warm, rich concentration with supple tannins. More peppery, resiny, garrigue, mocha, licorice fruit with black cherry and blackberry flavours and a savoury, anise finish. A bit dry on the finish but with fine roundness and finesse. Not shy of alcohol. (Anthony Gismondi and Stuart Tobe).

About this Wine

Shiraz

Bold and full-bodied, Shiraz delivers rich dark fruit flavours of blackberry, plum, and black cherry, layered with black pepper, clove, and subtle smoke. Firm tannins and a velvety texture give it real structure, often rounded out by notes of chocolate and vanilla from oak ageing. A versatile pairing partner for grilled meats and hearty dishes, it's one of Australia's most planted red varieties

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the countries vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
