Wolfburn Aurora is the unpeated, sherry-influenced expression from Wolfburn Distillery in Caithness. The name references the Aurora Borealis — the Northern Lights that illuminate Caithness skies in the winter months, a natural phenomenon intrinsic to the identity of the Far North of Scotland. Aurora is matured in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels and oloroso sherry casks, which together impart warm dried fruit, dark chocolate, and subtle spice to the light, fresh unpeated spirit produced by the Wolfburn stills. The oloroso sherry contribution adds richness and colour without dominating the delicate Caithness spirit character. Bottled at 46% ABV without chill-filtration.

Wolfburn Distillery is located just west of Thurso in Caithness — the northernmost point of mainland Scotland — making it the most northerly mainland whisky distillery in Scotland. The original Wolfburn Distillery was founded by William Smith in 1821 and named after the local burn, or stream, from which it drew its water. Tax records from 1826 show it produced 125,000 litres annually, making it the largest distillery in Caithness at the time. The distillery fell silent in the 1860s and stood as a ruin for nearly 150 years. A new distillery of the same name was established on the same site, with the ground broken in August 2012 and distillation recommencing on 25 January 2013.
