    • Description

Viognier’s exotic opulence produces a wine of seductive and perfumed pleasure. A low yielding, high quality vintage producing excellent, intense wines in small quantities. Unusually all of the Viognier was picked on the same day, due to the small crop. It was picked on March 1, and bottled Feb 2023. The grapes were brought to the winery in the picking buckets and then transferred to the sorting table to remove leaves and any damaged grapes. Very gentle whole bunch pressing to minimise phenolic extraction. The juice was settled and racked off solids before wild fermentation in old barrels. It stayed on its lees in the barrels, with some stirring, for about 10 months. On the nose, exotic notes of apricot, peach blossom and burnt honey sit beside lifted aromas of white tea, ginger and lemon verbena. The palate is similarly complex with an unctuous, yet gently pithy framework that delivers both perfumed volume and lively length.

    Yeringberg

Yeringberg’s status as a pioneer of the Yarra Valley is indisputable. It was one of the first wineries established in the region, was one of the last to stop making wine in the Yarra Valley when wine production ground to a halt in 1921 and was once again one of the first to revive its operations in 1969 when Australian-made wine came back into favour.

Third-generation winemaker, Guill de Pury, and his daughter Sandra focus on small-batch, handcrafted wines that reflect the history and charm of Yeringberg. The family celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2013 with plans to be making classic Yarra Valley wines for many more years to come.
