Tasting Notes

Longview Macclesfield Chardonnay 2024 is a refined Adelaide Hills Chardonnay showcasing vibrant fruit, savoury complexity and elegant oak influence. Crafted from the exceptional 2024 vintage, this premium white wine offers impressive quality and outstanding value.

The palate reveals layers of stone fruit and grapefruit, complemented by delicate notes of honey nougat, fresh mint and biscuit spice. A subtle flicker of struck match adds savoury depth and complexity, while bright acidity and a polished texture create a long, balanced finish.

Macclesfield, in the cool-climate Adelaide Hills, is renowned for producing Chardonnay with freshness, precision and excellent natural intensity. Though yields were small, the exceptional quality of the 2024 vintage promises to make it one for the ages.

Gary Walsh notes the wine’s expressive profile of “stone fruit, grapefruit, honey nougat, mint, biscuit spices, a flicker of struck match.” A beautifully composed Adelaide Hills Chardonnay with the structure to develop further in bottle.

Critic Scores

Stone fruit, grapefruit, honey nougat, mint, biscuit spices, a flicker of struck match. It’s glossy and a little slippery in feel, though it’s also cut back with bright grapfruity acidity, some flint to texture, quite some lemony bite on a finish of good length. Good wine all up.

Something delicious goes here. It's such an easy-drinking chardonnay, ticking lots of boxes for the dictionary definition of the variety. Stone fruits, citrus, apple, light spice, some nougat notes, and set in a frame that feels refreshing and gently puckering. Not reinventing the wheel, but a sure thing.

About this Wine

Longview Vineyard

Longview Vineyards are in the Adelaide Hill, South Australia. They produce big reds, mainly shiraz.

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the countries vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
