Fefiñanes is Rías Baixas’ most historic albariño producer.

This is round and mineral with crisp acidity to support the lovely smooth texture and peachy flavour.

While this wine is already delightful in its youth, it also has excellent cellaring potential and will continue to evolve and develop more complexity over time offering an opportunity to experience the wine's maturation and appreciate its evolving nuances.

Tasting Notes

100 percent Albarino

Fresh fruit aromas of apricot and peach slices with notes of lemon and green apple. Pretty notes of honey and wet nutmeg, and the mouth is round, clean, and pleasant with baked apple, honey, and lemon.

This is a classic Albarino which is good young, but actually improves over two to three years and remains quite drinkable for up to five years. Owner Juan Gil comments that the wine really starts to come into its own in June/July, and he actually prefers it 18 or more months after it's made.

Vineyard Cultivation

Fefinanes represents one of Rías Baixas' most storied producers, with cellars and vineyards established in the 1970s in the Rias Baixas denominación. The winery farms Albarino parcels on the subregion's characteristic soils—granitic sand with marine influence and high precipitation—which impart characteristic mineral salinity and aromatic freshness to the variety. Vines are trellised high on traditional espaliered supports (pergolas), allowing air circulation to prevent fungal disease in the Atlantic-influenced climate. The 2023 vintage in Galicia brought adequate spring moisture, moderate summer heat, and dry conditions at harvest, allowing full aromatic development while retaining the bright acidity essential to the region's style.

Vinification

Fruit was hand-harvested and transported whole to the winery for gentle pressing. Juice settled for 24 hours in stainless steel to clarify, with settled solids removed. Fermentation proceeded in temperature-controlled stainless steel at cool temperatures (12–14°C), taking three to four weeks and allowing full aromatic extraction alongside slow alcohol development. The wine remained on fine lees in tank post-fermentation, stirred periodically to add texture and complexity, typical of quality Albariño practice. The finished wine was bottled young—typically within four to six months of vintage—to preserve freshness and floral character. No malolactic fermentation was encouraged, maintaining the wine's crisp acidity profile.
