Ascheri Barolo Pisapola 2015 stands as a distinguished testament to Piedmont’s esteemed winemaking tradition, showcasing the expressive power and refinement that define Barolo wines. Crafted exclusively from hand-selected Nebbiolo grapes grown in the renowned Langhe region, this vintage reflects the unique limestone-rich soils and ideal microclimate that contribute to the vineyard’s signature aromatic complexity and structural depth.

The 2015 growing season in Piedmont was marked by balanced weather conditions, resulting in grapes that achieved perfect ripeness with concentrated flavors and silky tannins. This Barolo Pisapola displays a bright ruby hue that preludes an intense nose filled with vibrant notes of red cherry, fresh rose petals, and subtle layers of tar and exotic spice. On the palate, it reveals a velvety texture with refined elegance, supported by polished tannins and a long, contemplative finish that underscores its classic Barolo character.

Produced by a premium private cellar renowned for its commitment to quality and tradition, this wine offers both immediate enjoyment and excellent aging potential. Its harmonious balance and approachable freshness invite early drinking, while the structure and depth promise graceful evolution over many years, enhancing complexity and richness.

As an exemplary expression of the 2015 vintage and the Pisapola vineyard’s distinct terroir, this Barolo is perfectly suited to complement rich, flavorful Italian cuisine. It pairs exquisitely with dishes such as truffle risotto, slow-braised meats, and aged cheeses, enriching dining experiences with its sophisticated profile and layered aromas.

Critic Scores

Deepish brick-red colour, with a touch of dark chocolate in the complex, robust bouquet which also holds notes of ironstony earth, ferrous touches and more, the palate very full-bodied and powerful, loaded with firm tannins and tight packed density. Long, long carry. A most impressive wine.Medium brick-red colour, typical of nebbiolo at this age, the bouquet very complex, mellow and showing advanced maturity - again not unusual in Barolo. A touch of funky meatiness. Some iron-filings. The wine is very savoury, complex, and drying on the finish with abundant tannins. A finer, less full-bodied style, and quite lovely.

Perfumed, displaying cherry, strawberry, sandalwood, licorice, spice and tobacco aromas and flavours. This is intense and resonates on the long, mineral-and-spice-tinged aftertaste. Shows fine harmony already at this youthful stage. Best from 2022 through 2040.

Vinification & Cultivation

Crafted only for our premium wines

Vineyard Cultivation

The 2015 vintage brought an exceptionally warm, dry growing season to Piedmont's Barolo region, with ideal ripening conditions throughout the year. Ascheri's south-facing Pisapola cru in Monforte d'Alba captured optimal solar intensity during this stellar vintage, producing deeply concentrated Nebbiolo grapes with excellent phenolic maturity. The limestone-clay soils characteristic of this premium site provide essential mineral precision and natural acidity balance, fundamental to Barolo's structural longevity and complexity. Ascheri's commitment to traditional, low-yield viticulture ensured exceptional fruit concentration and premium quality expression throughout harvest.

Vinification

The 2015 Pisapola fermented with native yeasts in temperature-controlled tanks, allowing slow, purposeful extraction of Nebbiolo's complex tannin architecture throughout extended fermentation. Malolactic fermentation occurred naturally without intervention, followed by 18 months in French oak—new and one-year-old cooperage carefully balanced to preserve the wine's mineral character. Oak maturation allowed structural development and integration. Regular racking and careful cellar management complemented the wine's progression throughout the extended ageing period. Unfiltered and unfined bottling preserved the wine's natural complexity and depth.
