Tasting Notes

The grapes come from a vineyard near Victoria, between Traiguén and Lautaro, in the Malleco valley. This is a new region where cool climate, high quality grapes are grown at about 565km south of Santiago and approximately 80km inland from the Pacific Ocean. The soils are deep and black and rich in trumao – a volcanic soil formed by deposits from the historic eruptions of the nearby volcanoes; principally Tolhuaca and Lonquimay. The topography of the area includes solitary hills and ranges of mountains that rise up from the plains forming the Coastal range of mountains. The climate is mild and maritime with considerable thermic amplitude which is ideal for growing ripe grapes of high quality.

The wine presents a straw-coloured, yellow appearance and is bursting with rich character and elegance. Delicate but pronounced aromas of white peach, pear, quince and subtle hints of coconut mix harmoniously with unique mineral notes. The palate is refreshing and tense with delightful complexity and good structure; its vibrant acidity is particularly notorious as well as its low alcohol. The finish is long and lingering with distinct mineral undertones.

Vinification & Cultivation

Crafted only for our premium wines

Vineyard Cultivation

Bodega Volcanes de Chile's Tectonia Premium Chardonnay 2022 originates from the Malleco Valley in Chile's cooler southern reaches, where volcanic soils and moderate climate conditions combine to produce Chardonnay of elegance and mineral precision. The 2022 vintage delivered ideal ripening with warm daytime temperatures and cool nighttime conditions, balancing fruit sugar development with fresh acidity retention and complexity. The distinctive volcanic terroir imparts characteristic mineral character to the fruit, whilst the cooler climate encourages slower ripening that preserves aromatic complexity and finesse. Sustainable viticulture ensures exceptional quality fruit and authentic terroir expression.

Vinification

The 2022 Tectonia Premium Chardonnay was harvested and pressed gently to preserve delicate aromatic qualities, then fermented in French oak with natural yeasts. The wine aged on fine lees for approximately 6–8 months with regular bâtonnage to develop textural complexity and richness throughout the maturation period. Partial malolactic fermentation provided subtle richness whilst carefully maintaining acidity balance and freshness. Careful cellar management guided development and integration. Fining and filtration before bottling produced a refined expression of Malleco Valley Chardonnay.

About this Wine

Bodega Volcanes de Chile

“Our philsophy is to create wines that reflect their unique soils, formed by volcanic activity over millions of years and that are true expressions of their origin, displaying the purity and typicity
of the specific grape without excessive oak that can mask the unique flavours. The chance to source grapes from a range of denominations gives the portfolio more diversity but in each wine my style is consistent as I aim to really manifest the volcanic rocks and ash by ultimately producing wines that are more vibrant and intense with balanced tannins and acidity.” Pilar Diaz - Volcanes Winemaker
