Tasting Notes

The Bogle family has been farming in the Sacramento River Delta for six generations. The first 20 acres of vines were planted in 1968 near the small farming community of Clarksburg. Today Bogle Vineyards farms over 1,500 acres of wine grapes in the Clarksburg AVA and other select California winegrowing regions including Old Vine Zinfandel from Lodi and Amador and Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir from the cool Monterey and Russian River Valley AVA’s. The Bogle family’s deep respect for the land and generational commitment to putting consistent, honest value in every bottle is rooted in one over-arching philosophy: the family is involved in every detail of the business. And they are some of the nicest folks you’ll ever meet!

The 2023 vintage reflects the distinct in fluence of a cooler growing season, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and develop nuanced flavors. On the nose, expect vibrant aromas of bright citrus, freshly plucked apples and delicate white jasmine. On the palate, stone fruit notes are met with rich undertones of vanilla and clove, harmonized with warm spice and a touch of oak-derived toastiness. The interplay between the oak and fruit brings a balanced finish, with higher toasty notes lingering gracefully.

Critic Scores

The aromas of freshly baked brioche are captivating, giving way to yellow plum, bruléed orange slices and notes of Elderflower honey on the nose. The flavours on the palate are sugared lemon rind, baked pear, Pink Lady apple with yeasty medium mousse and a mineral dry finish.

Vineyard Cultivation

The Bogle family has farmed in the Sacramento River Delta for six generations, planting their first vines in 1968 near Clarksburg. Today the family grows and sources grapes across the Clarksburg AVA and other Californian regions, and the Chardonnay draws on cooler delta and coastal-influenced sites where river breezes moderate ripening. Clarksburg's deep, fertile delta soils and long, temperate growing season suit Chardonnay aimed at balancing fruit weight with freshness. The 2023 vintage was notably cool and late across California, allowing slow, even ripening and the retention of natural acidity, giving citrus and orchard-fruit character with measured richness rather than overt tropical ripeness.

Vinification

The wine is made in a split style, with roughly half fermented in stainless steel to preserve bright citrus and apple fruit and the other half barrel-fermented to add texture, breadth and gentle oak-derived spice. Barrel-fermented portions rest on lees to build weight and a subtly toasty, brioche-like character, while the tank-fermented fraction keeps the palate fresh. The two components are blended before bottling to achieve balance between fruit, oak and acidity. Malolactic conversion is managed to retain freshness. The result is a rounded but crisp Chardonnay finishing with mineral drive and light toast.
