Tasting Notes

Borgogno Barolo Annunziata Riserva 2020 represents an exceptional expression of Nebbiolo from Giacomo Borgogno & Figli, one of Barolo’s most historic and revered producers since 1761. This prestigious Riserva is sourced exclusively from the Annunziata cru, a vineyard site celebrated for its unique terroir that imparts both power and finesse, hallmarks of classic Barolo style.

Crafted only in outstanding vintages, the 2020 Annunziata Riserva undergoes meticulous aging in large oak casks to fully develop its complexity and depth. The wine reveals a refined and perfumed bouquet, featuring lifted aromas of red cherries, delicate roses, and subtle earthy nuances that intertwine gracefully. On the palate, it displays silky tannins balanced by vibrant acidity, offering layered flavors and a harmonious, elegant structure that reflects the vintage’s excellent growing conditions.

Esteemed for its poised elegance and remarkable aging potential, this Riserva promises rewarding cellaring for years to come, evolving beautifully with time. The 2020 vintage benefits from favorable weather in the Barolo region, which contributed to ideal ripening and a balanced profile, further enhancing the wine’s richness and refinement.

Available as part of a La Place de Bordeaux pre-arrival offer, this wine will be delivered from September 2026 onwards, allowing ample bottle aging before release. The Borgogno Annunziata Riserva is a distinguished choice for collectors and connoisseurs seeking a timeless Barolo that embodies centuries of tradition while expressing modern elegance and complexity.

Critic Scores

Confit rose petals and some fresh petals too. A certain dusty minerality. A hint of lavender. Red berries, a little red cherry and a touch of exquisite tomato consommé. A hint of cordite. Crystalline, pure, radiant and ample in the frame – but with impressive heft and depth. Refined yet broad and imposing, with lovely almost flaky, grippy, Nebbiolo tannins. Sapid and very long with a lovely finish on lavender. Shapely and beautifully structured. - Colin Hay

One of the great terroirs of Barolo, give it time in the glass or another few years in bottle because this is just stunning, so much concentration, grips and clings on through the palate, not huge aromatics at this stage more about texture and tingling minerality, then crushed roses, edges of smoked caramel and woodsmoke. 0.9ha, Andrea Farinetti owner, Simone Bosari winemaker, Certified organic since 2019 vintage. - Jane Anson
