Bream Creek Vineyard, on Tasmania's east coast overlooking Marion Bay, is one of the island's oldest vineyards, first planted in 1974. Vigneron Fred Peacock has owned and shaped it since 1990, building a long-held reputation as one of Australia's leading Pinot Noir producers on this cool, maritime site. The long, slow ripening season and coastal influence underpin the wine's perfume and saline acidity. The 2023 vintage is regarded as a strong one for the estate: a cool, measured Tasmanian season that yielded bright, well-defined cherry and berry fruit with the freshness and fine tannin structure that critics such as Gary Walsh singled out as characterful.

In the estate's traditional bold style, the fruit was handpicked and fermented largely as whole berries with a share of whole bunches to add spice, florals and structure. A wild-yeast ferment and an extended maceration on skins built the wine's depth and fine-grained tannin. Maturation followed in French oak, a portion new, to frame rather than mask the vivid red and dark cherry fruit. This magnum bottling of the 2023 shows dark cherry, plum and wild strawberry with red-floral, spice and forest-floor complexity, driven by a saline acid line and gentle tannins, and was widely awarded as a best-of-show Pinot Noir in 2024.
