Tasting Notes

Deep garnet in the glass, this Gamay is clearly no light-weight. Rich dark plums jump out of the glass with a creamy roundness and the slightest hint of spice. The complete palate is enveloped with rich dark fruit. The most harmonious of fruit expression with a seamless suggestion of spice and oak. There’s just enough acidity to provide a clean and refreshed finish. Now this is what Gamay tastes like!!

Vineyard Cultivation

Bremley is a young southern-Tasmanian label from James and Vanessa Bresnehan, whose Bremley Vineyard is the northernmost in the Coal River Valley, made in partnership with winemakers Anna Pooley and Justin Bubb. Gamay is a relatively uncommon choice in Tasmania, and the valley's warm, dry, sheltered mesoclimate and free-draining soils allow it to ripen while keeping natural acidity and perfume. The 2023 Tasmanian season was cool and later than average; specific block and yield data for this wine is not confirmed and is flagged NEEDS VERIFICATION.

Vinification

The Gamay is made in a fuller, dark-fruited style rather than a light nouveau, showing deep colour, plum and spice over supple tannin with enough acidity for a clean finish. Whether whole-bunch or carbonic techniques were used, the fermentation vessel, and any oak maturation are not confirmed here and are flagged NEEDS VERIFICATION; the finished wine reads as a structured, dry expression of the variety.
