The Barbera and Merlot plantings benefit from intense diurnal temperature variation that creates complexity in the fruit profile. Arizona's growing season is typically warm and dry, concentrating flavours whilst the elevation moderates heat stress. The house approach for non-vintage blends draws on multiple vintage lots, selecting fruit that balances Barbera's acidity with Merlot's structure.

The Barbera-Merlot blend undergoes separate fermentation before assembly. Barbera is harvested to preserve acidity and is fermented with native yeasts, creating complexity. Merlot is handled to extract tannins that will eventually complement Barbera's natural acid. Both varieties undergo ageing in a mix of French and American oak before blending. The non-vintage nature allows the winemaker to create a consistent house style by adjusting proportions across vintage sources, with final élevage in oak providing integrated oak character and textural development.
