Tasting Notes

The 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo from Cantina D'Arcy is a stunning example of the new wave of producers in Piedmont, merging, local terroir with a focus on aromatic purity. Produced by Tom Myers—who honed his skills with iconic producers like Rinaldi—this cuvée is perfumed, lacy, and highly approachable, showcasing delicate red fruit notes and bright acidity, often described as a "window into Barolo" that can be enjoyed immediately.

Vineyard Cultivation

Cantina D'Arcy is the small Langhe project of New Zealand-born winemaker Tom Myers, who worked with Benjamin Leroux, Domaine d'Angerville and Comte Armand in Burgundy before settling in Piedmont around 2013. The estate name honours his Australian-born maternal grandmother. For this Langhe Nebbiolo Myers draws on high-quality sites including Bricco San Pietro and Perno in Monforte d'Alba and Castagni in La Morra, farmed sustainably and organically. The 2023 Piedmont season was uneven with early-season rain and pressure before a warm finish, though vineyard-specific notes for this wine are flagged NEEDS VERIFICATION.

Vinification

In a Burgundian, fruit-respecting spirit, the wine is made with around 10% whole clusters and roughly two weeks of maceration, using indigenous yeast and spontaneous fermentation. It is then aged exclusively in concrete for about eleven months and bottled without fining or filtration. The intent is a perfumed, sensual young Nebbiolo emphasising bright red fruit, flowers and fine tannin over raw spice, built for early drinking and elegance rather than extraction.
