Declassified Barolo 'Preda' Cru: Sourced entirely from the prestigious Preda vineyard but labelled as Vino Rosso to bypass DOCG wood-ageing mandates and maintain freshness

Utilises 50–70% whole clusters and gentle maceration to create a Burgundian-style texture with fine-grained, elegant tannins.

Emphasises high-toned notes of rose petal, orange peel, and bright red fruit, supported by a distinct chalky mineral finish from the sandy marl soils.

Tasting Notes

The 2022 'Pre' Vino Rosso represents Tom Myers’ uncompromising pursuit of purity, even at the expense of a prestigious label. By choosing to step outside the Barolo DOCG regulations, Myers has crafted a wine that prioritizes the "hedonistic pleasure" of the fruit's natural vibrancy over traditional woody structure. This "Pre" (short for Preda) is a masterclass in elegant Nebbiolo, offering an ethereal, perfume-driven experience that draws heavily on Burgundian techniques like high whole-bunch inclusion and minimal racking. It is a vibrant, uplifting expression that balances sweet red fruit with a chalky mineral finish, proving that for Cantina D'Arcy, the quality of the site always speaks louder than the appellation laws

Vinification & Cultivation

Crafted only for our premium wines

Vineyard Cultivation

The Vino Rosso 'Pre' comes from Tom Myers's estate Cantina D'Arcy, sourced entirely from the Preda vineyard in Barolo – a site between Cannubi and Vignane planted to some 7,550 Nebbiolo vines on an east-facing slope of sandy Sant'Agata Fossil marls. Myers, New Zealand-born and Burgundy-trained, farms simply, organically and with an eye to biodiversity under a long rental agreement giving full viticultural control. Labelling the wine as Vino Rosso rather than Barolo lets him bypass the DOCG's mandatory wood-ageing to preserve freshness. Precise 2022 seasonal detail for the site is flagged NEEDS VERIFICATION.

Vinification

Though effectively a declassified single-cru Barolo, 'Pre' is vinified for freshness and finesse: around 50–70% whole clusters with gentle maceration, indigenous-yeast fermentation and spontaneous malolactic in a Burgundian idiom. Ageing avoids the long cask maturation Barolo DOCG requires, keeping the high-toned rose petal, orange peel and bright red fruit intact, with a chalky mineral finish drawn from the sandy marl soils and fine-grained tannin. Exact vessel and time in oak/other ageing are not fully confirmed here and are flagged NEEDS VERIFICATION.
